One of the enticements for Developers to participate in Special Housing Areas was as a Government and Auckland Council specifically identified Housing Accord outcome, the offer of faster consenting to quickly enable development.
In return for the expediting of consents, 10% of the housing was to be "Affordable" based on the criteria set in the notified Auckland Unitary Plan.
It has been widely reported that very few Developers participated in the delivery of Affordable Housing. One reason is that the promise of expedited consents did not materialise.
